AFLM Predictions – Round 9, 2020

It’s time! Footymania! The longest uninterrupted streak of AFLM in league history is set to kick off tonight on the Gold Coast, where the reigning premiers are looking to recover from last week’s hiccup against a Bulldogs side who’re gunning for three wins in a row (and six out of the last seven).

We’re just amused that Channel 7 called the Bulldogs a ‘powerhouse club’ in TV advertising.

From a tipping perspective: we didn’t flunk out last week! In fact, even despite our laughably overconfident Port tip, we still got a positive Bits score (for the third week in a row) and moved up a little in the Squiggle rankings. So there’s plenty of room to improve on that, even if we’re a fair way behind the leaders (who are, interestingly, the punters).

A few teams were big winners in our form updates after last week. St Kilda climbed into the finals at the expense of Essendon, while the Cats and Eagles replaced the Magpies and Tigers as top four teams. Port are still tipped to finish first (despite being in fourth on the ratings), but Geelong overtook plenty of sides to become our new top-rated team.

This is probably our most fence-sitty week of the year, with only one team tipped to have a >75% chance of winning (St Kilda, over the low-flying Swans – good old Lake Derby!) We’ve got a lot of other closer results tipped, including a one-point upset win to the Bulldogs tonight.
