We were able to get a nice pause in the W-League during the international break, which saw Australia do an excellent job to make the play-off round for Olympic qualifying. We’ve got a two-leg playoff against Vietnam in order to make Tokyo, but before that we’ve got the last three rounds of the W-League home and away season.

A-League Predictions – Round 19, 2019-20
This week we’re heading into the second four-game round straight. Last week’s was not intentional, with the showcase Sydney Derby being postponed due to torrential weather in the nation’s largest city. The other games were all won by the home team, including a couple who scored four goals.

A-League Predictions – Round 17, 2019-20
Another late publication, sorry – we probably won’t get the high scoring Sydney v Brisbane game we tipped.

A-League Predictions – Round 16, 2020
We’re a little late for tonight’s games (largely due to business, and largely because of Wellington finally getting to host a Friday night game, in their unfortunate timezone). Regardless, we’ve got an exciting round as we turn the corner into the second half of the season: the traditional Big Blue around Invasion Day, an really close prediction for the Mariners v Brisbane game, and Western United bringing top-level soccer to Footscray for the first time since the mighty Footscray JUST.

A-League Predictions – Round 15, 2019/20
We’re on our way to the halfway mark of the season, which we’ll reach in this round for most teams. It looks like Sydney’s competition to lose, with the Sky Blues opening up a three-game lead on their nearest rivals. That said, there’s a lot of evenness in the competition, and we’ve effectively got six teams fighting for the last two spots in the finals – even then, the gaps aren’t that big with the other sides.

Last weekend was a parade of all the same result, with the three games being played (two from Round 9, one from Round 8) all ending 4-0. One of the results was a major upset, with Brisbane Roar dominating the Wanderers to inflict their first loss of the season on them.

It seems that every A-League and W-League season, we lose at least one game to adverse weather, and last weekend we had it – the Sydney v Canberra game was postponed, with the new match date TBA. (My proposal is that we play it in Round 10, delaying the Sydney v Brisbane match scheduled then to Round 11 (when both teams would have the bye anyway)).

The Wanderers are finally off the bottom of the tree! Their crushing 4-0 win over Canberra has lifted their overall rating up to -0.31, which puts them in equal sixth, above both Canberra and Adelaide. They’re still tipped to fall some way behind the only other unbeaten team, Melbourne City.

As we move on to the new decade, it seems like we’re on track for more dominance from Sydney FC. The Sky Blues are three wins clear of their nearest rivals in Melbourne City, the gap being widened by a 2-1 win that both came from behind and was achieved with ten men.
