Sports analysis and statistics
The two Sydney teams are flying at the top of the W-League table, and they’re illustrating another issue with our predictive system – it’s too slow to respond at the start of seasons. Hence why Sydney FC, who were a top side last year, are tipped to finish first, while the Wanderers – who also have a 2-0 record, but only earned four points last year – are projected to slide back to last.
Continue reading “2019-20 W-League Predictions – Round 3”An admission to make first – this week’s little table post is a bit narrower than usual, and you’d be wondering why we haven’t included the projected ladder in our hub.
The answer is because it’s not ready. Schoolwork has swamped up on us, and we haven’t found the time to do it with all of our other blog commitments. So apologies, and we’ll try to have it back for next week.
Continue reading “2019-20 A-League Predictions – Round 7”The bad news is that we were going into the W-League season with a massively bad calculations error – this explains all of the super-low scores that we were getting predicted. Fortunately, we’ve fixed that ahead of Round 2, and the rest of the season, so it’s a problem no longer!
Continue reading “2019-20 W-League Predictions – Round 2”The perils of small sample sizes – and our irrational dislike of Kuwait – reared up again. Thanks to a 9-0 win over Chinese Taipei (an impressive one with eight goalscorers, even if one of them was an own goal), the Kuwaitis now have the most impressive offensive rating in the AFC by far. They’ve scored 16 goals in 5 games when they’ve only been tipped to score 11, enough to give them an offensive rating of +0.0113 goals/minute.
Continue reading “2022 World Cup Qualifiers – AFC Second Round, Matchday 6”Our system is still bullish on Melbourne City and Western United, but it has no qualms at all with sending Sydney FC to the top of the tree – and by some distance, too. It’s also probably underreacting to Wellington’s poor start, and overreacting to that of Melbourne Victory.
Not much elaboration for these posts, we had our last exam for the year today so we’re pretty hyped up about that. That said, we will point out a couple of exciting games for overnight – for an ideal uninterrupted experience, go Uzbekistan v Saudi Arabia -> Lebanon v Korea Republic -> Jordan v Australia.
Continue reading “2022 World Cup Qualifiers – AFC Second Round, Matchday 5”Okay, we’re fifteen minutes late (serves us right for another last minute task), but we’ve got our W-League predictions up!
Fair warning, these won’t be as reliable as our men’s ones are. For one, the home/away system isn’t quite as even as the men’s (Adelaide have never hosted Melbourne City, for example). Secondly, the Wanderers are so bad that they screw with our system, leading us to predict way too many low-scoring matches.
But, anyway, here are our tips. The game of the round should be the finale, with Melbourne City and Newcastle set to play out a tight, defensive encounter. It’s a pretty even season coming up, with not much space between third and seventh.
Yes, we know we’re about half a game late (isn’t it funny how not being at school means we don’t have any impetus to procrastinate?), but here’s our tips for Round 5 of the A-League.
Round 4 was an interesting one for our predictions, completely wiping out our Bit gains for the year with two bad tips for Melbourne Victory and Perth. Both of those teams continued their slide in ratings, with Melbourne Victory now tipped to miss the finals.
The round should be bookended by home wins (something even more clear now that City are 1-0 up), with a bunch of away victories in the middle.
(We’ve given up on trying to make a witty post title each week, sorry.)
We got three right last week rather than two, our best performance of the season so far. Again, the Wanderers were a team we missed on, and their 3-0-0 start to the year has them tipped to finish third, much better than their rating says.
Finally, this week, the Westerners are tipped to get a victory, over the currently winless Brisbane. Indeed, it’s a good week for all the home teams, with all of them predicted for victory.
