W-League Predictions – Round 3, 2021

The W-League kicked off last week, and after two rounds we’ve gotten a rather surprising result: Canberra United, of all teams, sitting on top of the table. The much-loved underdogs have two wins from two games, both of them thanks to stoppage time winners in one-goal margins.

The first game, on a Wednesday evening against Adelaide, saw them 0-2 down at half-time, 2-2 down at the start of stoppage time, and somehow 4-3 victors at the end of the day. Four days later, hosting Melbourne City on a Sunday, they got a firmly deserved victory; dominating the first half, scoring another last-minute winner, and dealing out Melbourne City’s first loss in seventeen games.

Unfortunately for them (and perhaps us), our system hasn’t quite responded to their success, so they’re still sitting at the bottom and as firm outsiders for away games – like tonight’s match against Brisbane. Other tipped winners for this week are Sydney, Adelaide, and Melb City.
