MBBL|10 Predictions – Match 27+28

Yesterday’s double headers gave two ultimately expected results at both corners of the country and both extremes of the Elo table. The Sixers bounced back from an upset loss after beating the Strikers; while the Renegades limped to a 96-run loss against Perth, somehow only their third biggest this season (and they still got the bonus point!)

The Sixers kept their footing at the top of the Elo table, while the Renegades continued their plummet down to all-time lows. Their rating of 1428 is now the lowest of any team other than the Sydney Thunder from their infamous 2012-2015 stretch. The question is, just how low could they go?

We went through the rest of the season, using our database to assume that the team with the higher rating will win each game. The end ratings, if this unlikely scenario happened, would be:

Sydney Sixers1618
Sydney Thunder1570
Hobart Hurricanes1527
Adelaide Strikers1525
Melbourne Stars1504
Brisbane Heat1472
Perth Scorchers1411
Melbourne Renegades1375

The Sixers would easily overtake the all-time record, the Perth Scorcher’s 1588 from late 2018. Indeed, they should get that with two games to spare, so there’s even space for them to lose a game or two this year. The Renegades, meanwhile, would have more of an ‘effort’ to go below the 1390 mark set by the Thunder – losing every game will do it, but if they win one they probably won’t have enough time.

The last double header today before a break of any only match tomorrow. The Hurricanes are favourites for the rematch against the Stars (watch as they spill it like they did against Adelaide in this situation), and the Thunder should be too strong for the Heat.
