MBBL|10 Predictions – Match 20

After the two overlapping games from yesterday, it seems like a pretty fair judgement that Sydney >>> Melbourne in this season of the MBBL. Firstly, the Sixers got out of jail again, hitting sixteen off the last over (questionably bowled by Will Sutherland) to claim an expected victory against a strong Renegades performance. In the next game, Alex Hales inspired the Thunder to 7/219 – the equal-third highest score in MBBL history – on their way to an easy victory over the Stars.

MBBL|10 Predictions – Matches 18 + 19

The Perth Scorchers have firmly fallen off the wagon. It was always going to be shocking after several years of dominance, but the three-time champions are winless from four games, with their only competition points being a washout. Last night’s was comfortably the worst performance yet, falling away to be bowled-out against the Adelaide Strikers.

W-League Predictions – Round 1, 2021

For the first time in many years, the men’s and women’s soccer seasons in Australia are starting at the same time. As others have said ahead, this year’s W-League is the first one since the announcement that Australia is cohosting the 2023 Women’s World Cup, and the hope is that that (and the fact that many of Australia’s best international players have moved into the developing European leagues) will help us usher in a new generation of Matildas to take us to World Cup glory.

MBBL|10 Predictions – Match 17

The last three games in the MBBL, the ones that have been played since our last post (apologies for not getting anything out last night, the real world intervened), have been great contributors to what’s surely the greatest league in the world. Firstly, the Melbourne Renegades lost by 129 runs to the Sydney Thunder – somehow only their second-biggest loss of the season. Then, in a game that lasted until midnight, Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell put himself on to bowl the last over and conceded twenty runs to lose the game to the Sixers.

MBBL|10 Predictions – Match 12

Sunday night’s game of cricket, elevated to replace a cut-short Test match, couldn’t quite replicate that match’s weirdness, but certainly tried. The Sydney Sixers batted at only a run a ball for half an innings, Dan Christian hits the second-fasted half century in MBBL history, the Adelaide Strikers comfortably win the halfway bonus point but then lose by a lot, a 38-run thrashing.

MBBL|10 Predictions – Match 11

Yesterday’s early game was ultimately a fairly easy win for the Hobart Hurricanes. After taking two early wickets off the Melbourne Renegades, there was a decent recovery led by Sam Harper and Riley Rossouw, but they faltered when Rossouw lost his wicket at 5/157 was unlikely to be enough. The Hurricanes made short work of it, with Ben McDermott’s 89* guiding them to a six-wicket win, two overs in hand.

MBBL|10 Predictions – Match 10

Thanks to the existence of a day-night Test in Adelaide, and the MBBL’s commitment to avoiding playing multiple games at once, we’re now on track for the most unlikely of scenarios – a game starting at 11.10am in Hobart. The Hurricanes and Renegades are the two teams in action for today, with both hoping to recover from losses in their last game – admittedly, one being more spectacular than the other.
