Fittingly for a club once CEOd by Eddie McGuire, the Melbourne Stars’ astonishing finals streak has continued. Despite a 59% winning record across the MBBL’s history, and making the finals every season but one, they have a 2-8 record in finals matches – one that the Sixers continued to inflict, dismissing them for the lowest score in team history.

The Stars’ seemingly iron-clad grip on their first MBBL title has fallen apart, needing a win just to make the grand final – now to be held in Sydney. They still have a 24% chance of winning it, but that’s some way behind the 54% chance we give the Sixers.
There’s a chance for the team in green to redeem themselves on Thursday night, as they’ll host the winner of tonight’s Adelaide v Thunder game. The third placed Adelaide missed out by a hair on the double chance, and we tip them to make up for that.
